Financial Assistance

Deadline for receipt of Financial Aid Applications: June 1, 2008
The goals of the organizing committee for providing financial assistance are:

• Provide supplemental funding to individuals who would otherwise be unable to attend the meeting. This includes but is not limited to individuals who may be traveling from long distances to attend the meeting.
• Increase the participation of under-represented minorities.
• Increase the participation of student presenters.  Students who apply for aid must submit an abstract for a talk/poster presentation at the meeting.

Funds for financial assistance are provided by sponsors and are limited; therefore, please make every effort to secure your own funding.

Additional policies:
-Financial aid is available to cover registration costs only.
-No more than two people from the same lab can receive financial aid.
-Financial aid is on a reimbursement basis only. ONLY EXPENSES DOCUMENTED BY RECEIPTS AT THE TIME OF APPLICATION WILL BE ACCEPTED.
-We cannot provide funds to cover future expenses, as all expenses must be documented by receipts.

Financial aid awards will be announced in mid-June and checks will be disbursed in the form of reimbursements after the meeting. Students interested in applying for financial support will forward the following information to Dr. Jill Schumacher (jschumac@mdanderson.org).

To apply for financial aid, you must do the following:

1. Submit your application with the following information by email.

• Name, Address, Phone #, E-mail
• Registration Number • Abstract title & abstract
• Meeting you are attending
• Lab Address and name of Lab Head
• Short justification of financial need • Short CV

2. Print your registration confirmation, and STAPLE ALL THE RELEVANT RECEIPTS to it. On each receipt, highlight the registration amount (if in foreign currency, write equivalent dollar amount).  You can include receipts for travel, accommodations, etc to document your total travel expenses.  However, financial aid will only cover registration costs.

3. Mail a copy of your registration form WITH attached receipts with a copy of the emailed application to the financial aid organizer, Dr. Jill Schumacher

Deadline for form and receipts is June 1, 2008. Forms received after that date will NOT be reviewed, even if filed earlier on the web. Applications received by fax will NOT be accepted. Forms that do not have receipts attached to them will NOT be reviewed.
