Program
Abstract Submission
All abstracts will be accepted electronically via the online abstract submission website.
The site will open for abstract submissions beginning on or about Monday, February 4, 2008.
The deadline for submission of abstracts is Monday, April 7, 2008 (midnight) United States Eastern Standard Time.
Author Presentation Notifications
Platform and poster presentation assignments will be posted at the C. elegans Topic Meeting #1 Conference Web site http://www.union.wisc.edu/celegans/index.html on or around Monday, May 12, 2008. Just before this site opens, authors will be sent an e-mail reminder to visit the site for platform and poster presentation assignments.
Program and Abstracts Volume
The entire contents of the Program and Abstracts, including the text of all abstracts, will be available at the C. elegans Topic Meeting #1 Web site on or about Monday, June 2, 2008.
All registrants receive one copy of the Program and Abstracts when they arrive at the conference.
Plenary Speakers
We are delighted to announce that the following individuals will be among those giving plenary talks:
John White (Univ. of Wisconsin, Madison)
Julie Ahringer (Wellcome Trust/Cancer Research UK Gurdon Institute, University of Cambridge, England)
Scott Emmons (The Albert Einstein College of Medicine, New York, NY, USA)
Michel Labouesse (University of Strasbourg, France)
Susan Mango (Huntsman Cancer Institute, University of Utah, Salt Lake City, USA)
Barbara Meyer (Howard Hughes Medical Institute/University of California, Berkeley, USA)
Sam Ward (University of Arizona, Tucson, AZ, USA)
Ding Xue (University of Colorado, Boulder, USA)
Platform Sessions
The program committee will select a subset of abstracts for platform presentations, basing their selections on several criteria, including research area, scientific impact and laboratory representation. Authors of abstracts should indicate their preference for either a platform or a poster presentation by marking the appropriate field on the Web abstract submission form. Note, however, that the program committee will determine the final designation of platform or poster presentations.
Because platform presentation requests far exceed available presentation slots, authors should be prepared to present a poster if their abstract is not selected for a platform presentation.
Each platform presentation will be limited to a 12- minute presentation, with an additional 3 minutes for questions and discussion.
New & Notable Plenary Talks
We will select a New & Notable Plenary Talk (NNPT) for each session in which a selected abstract will receive a 20 minute time slot. The NNPT speaker will be selected in the following way: each topic abstract planning committee nominates a candidate speaker and then the entire committee votes for their favorite among the nominees.
Poster Sessions
Poster presenters will be required to attend their posters for one evening session. The poster area will be open 24 hours a day beginning at 8:00 am, Thursday, June 12th, until Sunday morning, June 15th (see Conference Schedule for room locations). Posters may be mounted on boards beginning at 5:00 PM on Wednesday, June 11th, and must be removed by 12:00 noon on Sunday, June 15th.
Workshops
* Workshop on Caenorhabditis evolution (Asher Cutter asher.cutter@utoronto.ca)
* In situ hybridization in C. elegans and other species (Morris Maduro mmaduro@ucr.edu)
* How to create Scientific images with subconscious appeal: Workshop Info
( H. Adam Steinberg adam@steinbergs.us)
* One-on-one 30-minute sessions working on your illustrations, talks or posters (during the Saturday poster session) Workshop Info (H. Adam Steinberg adam@steinbergs.us)
Individuals interested in attending a workshop should contact that workshop's organizer. This way we can monitor the size of the room needed. Rooms and times have been reserved for the presentation of workshops on Friday evening. Individuals interested in organizing a workshop should contact the workshop coordinator conference chairs by Monday, April 7, 2008. At that time, workshop organizers should provide a preliminary format.
Audio-Visual Equipment
All conference rooms for oral presentations (including workshops) will have laptop computers, video projectors, and overhead projectors available. Projection of traditional 35mm slides will not be available. Speakers should bring PowerPoint presentation files saved on a CD-R, CD-RW, a Zip Disk, or an USB Flash Memory Drive. Presentations will be copied to computers provided by conference staff prior to your session. Both PC and Macintosh computers will be available for use in all presentation rooms. The version of PowerPoint used to save the file is important. The highest quality projection will occur with files saved in Power Point 2000 format for PC's and use Mac OS9 or Mac OSX operating systems for Macs. Older versions of PowerPoint might result in lower quality images of reduced size.
Overhead presentations: Items for overhead projection should be copied onto plain white paper for best results. The orientation of the graphic should be portrait.
An oral presentation preview room will be available during the conference. Details will be sent to those selected for oral presentations.
All authors selected for platform presentations are required to load and test their computer-generated presentation on stage at the meeting the day before their assigned platform session (preferably 30-45 minutes prior). Further details will be posted at the abstract assignment notification Web site.
As in the past, each platform presenter will be given 12 minutes for presentation and an additional 3 minutes for questions and discussion.
