Cedar Grove Dairy

Dairy Farm

http://www.cedargrovecheese.com/

Cedar Grove Cheese is the last remaining dairy in the southwest corner of Sauk County. Now over 100 years old, Cedar Grove is the first to install an uncommon and innovative machine coined The Living Machine to handle the potentially hazardous amounts of wastewater created in making cheese. The Living Machine is an ecologically engineered system that combines elements of conventional wastewater technology with the purification processes of natural wetland ecosystems. In it, tropical plants (papyrus, Elephant Ear, lilies, Marsh grasses, rubber trees, etc.) grow an average of six inches a week.

One of the most stunning of its rooms is Overture Hall which features a 2251-seat architecturally striking theater.  Renowned for its acoustic quality, Overture Hall also offers eye-catching English sycamore-paneled balconies and a space that allows even the balcony an intimate view of the stage.

Taliesen

Taliesen

http://www.taliesinpreservation.org/visitorsguide/index.htm

This Frank Lloyd Wright home stands apart from the scenic landscape as one of his most famous masterpieces.  Taliesin was constructed of simple, inexpensive materials – limestone and sandstone quarried nearby, plaster, and wood. Wright built the house over 48 years, and never stopped adding to it or changing it until he died.  Often described as more of a village on a hill than a home, the house seems to grow from the site, with vistas of the surrounding countryside to the east and an intimate hill garden to the west

One of the many highlights is the 28’x36’ living room, a masterful interplay of vertical and horizontal spaces, flooded with light from banks of windows overlooking the valley and water gardens below.

To sign up for this special event, please click the appropriate box on your registration form or email Conference Services at symbiosis@union.wisc.edu. Tickets are $70 per person, and must be reserved and paid for in advance of the conference. Tickets are limited, and will be available on a first come, first served basis.

Wisconsin State Capital

http://www.wisconsin.gov/state/core/wisconsin_state_capitol_tour.html

Rising between the picturesque waters of Lake Monona and Lake Mendota, the majestic granite structure of Wisconsin's Capitol building stands out as one of Madison's premiere sites.

Reaching to a height of over 200 feet, the Capitol dome is topped by Daniel Chester French's elegant gilded bronze statue, "Wisconsin." Edwin Blashfield's mural "Resources of Wisconsin" lavishly decorates the ceiling of the rotunda, which is the only granite dome in the United States.

Inside, visitors are treated to the unique textures of 43 varieties of stone from around the world, hand-carved furniture and exquisite glass mosaics. The state's diverse ethnic heritage is also reflected in the architecture, art and furnishings throughout the Capitol.
