Chemical Fees
Chemical fees are charged on an hourly basis for printing ($2.00/hour) and on a per roll ($2.00/roll) basis for developing film in the darkroom. Students participating in a mini-course will be charged for chemical use outside of class time. (The chemical fee paid when MiniCourse classes started covers ONLY CLASS TIME chemical use.)
Chemistry Setup
The Craftshop staff will mix and set up chemicals on an as needed basis. This helps insure fresh, properly mixed chemicals. If chemicals become depleted and need to be refreshed, please contact a staff person.
Developing Film
Thermometers, developing tanks, scissors, and can openers are available for your use. These must be checked out with valid UW ID or driver’s license. You are responsible for items that you check out. These tools MUST be checked back in with a staff person to have the ID returned.
Negative Drying Cabinet
The negative dryer has an on-off switch and a timer, both of which need to be turned on to use and turned off when finished.
Printing Kits
Each printing kit contains a set of multi-grade filters, grain focuser, lupe, negative carrier and brush. Please make sure kits are complete BEFORE checking them out. Easels, contact glass and dodging tools are also available. These must be checked out with valid UW ID or driver’s license. You are responsible for items that you check out. These tools MUST be checked back in with a staff person to have the ID returned.
Light Table
The light table allows negatives to be viewed before printing. The light is very bright and gets quite warm. Please do not leave the table light on for extended periods of time.
Print Dryer
The print dryer is used ONLY with fiber-based papers. Place prints face up for matt or face down for glossy and snap the canvas down and over. Be sure to TURN OFF and UNPLUG the dryer when finished. RC (Resin Coated paper) prints may be dried by hanging them in the film developing area. Small hair dryers are available to hasten the drying process. Please remove dry prints promptly to avoid damage or loss.
