Woodshop
Materials and Supplies
- The Craftshop sells woodworker’s glue, hand sandpaper & random orbit discs, wood dowels & biscuits, dust masks and ear plugs.
Working in the Woodshop
Eye protection is REOUIRED when using tools or operating equipment in the woodshop.
- Clean up is a must. Brooms, brushes and dustpans are located in the woodshop. Please clean tables and floor areas where you have worked.
- Salvaged, used, dirty or treated wood is NOT ALLOWED in the Craftshop. Paint, chemicals and/or nails found in such material quickly dull or destroy jointer or planer knives and blades in other machines. Use of such material is the equivalent of damaging a machine.
- Newspaper MUST be used under ALL GLUING to catch glue drips.
- Be prompt about unclamping projects after gluing. Make certain to PUT CLAMPS AWAY in their correct storage spots. Important note: Be sure to scrape off all excess glue with a glue scraper before jointing or planning stock.
- The scrap bin is NOT a trashcan. Usable scraps only, please.
- TAG all wood projects in progress. Indicate the estimated time you will return to finish the work. Be sure to include a telephone number.
- TAG all wood and projects in the storage racks. Storage of wood and projects is only allowed for CURRENT Craftshop permit holders.
Tool Rules
- Never leave tools unattended, even if you are just leaving the work area for a short period of time (to plug a meter or take a break).
- If a tool breaks or you find one broken, let the Craftshop staff know immediately.
- Put tools away after using them. Please learn their names and location in storage areas.
- Valid IDs will be taken on a check in-out basis for certain tools. These tools include sanders, routers and router bits, drills and bits, lathe tools, dado blades and the biscuit cutter.
Dust Collection System
- The dust collection system is connected to all major stationary woodworking machines in the woodshop. It removes sawdust and wood particles that pollute the air and hinder the performance of the machines. It is designed to operate on a continuous basis and should be turned on and remain on while working with these machines.
- The dust collection system MUST BE USED with the table saw, jointer, planer, bandsaw, standing disc/belt sander, panel saw, compound miter and radial arm saw.
PLEASE FOLLOW ALL COMMON SAFETY RULES. BE AWARE OF OTHERS IN THE SHOP. IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS, PLEASE ASK FOR HELP.
