  • "Nocturnal Shift" by Kimberly Benson

Date: 2/26/2015 at 7:00 am to 10:00 pm
    Cost: FREE!
    Sponsor: WUD Art Committee
Location: Union South - Gallery 1308.

The artist states, "My exhibition will feature large and small paintings. I have two large paintings over 8ft wide and 7ft high. I will be making more large paintings to show for this exhibition within the next 9 months. My plan is to show three large-scale paintings, close to 8ft each and small paintings in Gallery 1308 Union South. I want Gallery 1308 specifically because it is on ground level and has the wall height to fit my large paintings, they need space around them and this gallery out of the four galleries available will suit the work best. The title of the exhibition is "Nocturnal Shift." My paintings manifest both the rot and joy of life; they challenge the viewer through overloaded jarring color and cool, slippery passages of cross cutting geometry, space and exploding viscera."

  • "Depictions" by Tyanna Buie

Date: 2/26/2015 at 10:00 am to 8:00 pm
    Cost: FREE!
    Sponsor: WUD Art Committee
Location: Memorial Union - Porter Butts Gallery.

The artist states, "See n¿ Say, broken swing sets, class-mate photos, and Easter Sunday dress rehearsal, are photo-documentation of events, objects, and people from my impermanent upbringing. These images are then transformed into a single iconic reference that emulates the function of memory, causing me to revive facts and recognize previous impressions from past events. My experiences begin to manifest into epic and exaggerated accounts that are inconsistent from one event to another, in an attempt to re-affirm my identity."
