What is it?
The Hirsch Family Award is designed to applaud innovative work by students and faculty who explore and showcase another aspect of the University’s diversity and excellence. 

What Types of Projects Would be Eligible?
A project must be part of a regular class assignment, linking one aspect of UW research, program or academic activity with a creative endeavor – a film, website, composition, photography exhibit, etc.  Either can initiate a project:  the “research” element or the “creative” element.

Why Apply?
Besides collaborating with another discipline on campus in a new, innovative way, the award provides up to $5,000 to the award recipient(s).  The faculty/staff supervisors will receive up to $2,000 which will be transferred to their department while the student will receive up to $3,000. It’s possible that multiple winners may split the award.

Undergraduates and professors are both encouraged to initiate projects and apply. Eligibility information

When to Apply?
March 22, 2011 is the award deadline. 
However, only COMPLETED projects are eligible to compete for the Hirsch Family Award. 
Therefore, those interested in applying should be thinking now about selecting a project to work on starting in summer or fall semester classes.

Who decides the Winner(s)?
The Wisconsin Union will administer the award process. 

Student and faculty winners will be honored at the Art Institute's Annual Spring Awards Receptin on May 3, 2011. Students are also encouraged to participate in the spring Undergraduate Symposium.
