We are the UW-Madison Music Committee. We book, promote, and cover shows every weekend at Union South's Club 770, and Memorial Union's Der Rathskeller/ Terrace.
WUD Music is run entirely by University of Wisconsin-Madison students who democratically decide which bands to book at our weekly meetings. WUD Music is a registered student organization, and membership is open to all UW-Madison students. We are always looking for new ideas, suggestions, or faces, so come on out and join us this fall semester of the lovely academic year 07-08. Our meetings are in the union on Mondays at 6 pm, check the Today in the Union for room info.
Don't be afraid to ask questions. We all have to start somewhere.
Here are some of the departments within the Music Committee that we always need help with:
FREE Music (Union South and Memorial Union): These shows are free and are always all ages.
We program exclusively for:
Club 770 where students have booked bands like: Ted Leo, Girl Talk, Brother Ali, Melt Banana, the Soviettes, Of Montreal, the Detachment Kit, Fall Out Boy, Mates of State, TV on the Radio, Archers of Loaf, and the Alkaline Trio.
Der Rathskeller is a lovely place of conviviality and beer where singer-songwriters (like David Bazan), to jam bands (like Perpetrual Groove and Tea Leaf Green) to play in a quintessentially college environment
The Terrace is one of the country's only lakeside venues that offers entirely free concerts and has seen bands like Umphrey's McGee, the Buzzcocks, Braid, Yo La Tengo, Seu Jorge, Arrested Development, the Blood Brothers and Ted Leo and the Pharmacists, among many others.
Behind the Beat: A series that take place Friday afternoons at Memorial Union. The series is comprised of "easy on the ears" music. Think jazz, easy listening, singer-songwriters, etc. For more information, contact our Behind the Beat coordinator, Ethan Berlin at eberlin@wisc.edu
Festivals: A series of music for the socially conscious. We work to provide Festivals of all genres to the community with both a strong assortment local and regional music. Synesthesia is the name of the game: where music meets art, food, and social education. Let our Festivals coordinator know Matt Forrest mbforrest@wisc.edu know if you're interested.
Paid Programs: Paid Programs are any events that are too big to be a free show. They happen in venues like the Wisconsin Union Theater, the Great Hall in Memorial Union, and Club 770. We've had bands like Robert Randolph, Howie Day, Tsunami Bomb, G. Love and the Special Sauce, Motion City Soundtrack, Blackalicious and Phish as paid events. For more information about our paid events, contact this year's coordinator, Patrick Tilley ptilley@wisc.edu.
PROMOTIONS:.. We Support Art.
We're always looking for creative ideas on how we can spread the word about our events.
If you're a graphic design student, or amateur artist that wants to build his/her resume, we routinely use student artwork in our fliers and advertisements. We love: silkscreens, colorful PDFs and Web Designers.
If you're a creative person with the tenacity and passion to walk all over town and unabashedly staple paper on public property--we'll need you too.
If you feel like you can contribute somehow, but none of the descriptions above fit what you want to do, let us know.
