TeraGrid ’07 Broadening Participation Conference Scholarships

The TeraGrid ’07 “Broadening Participation in TeraGrid” invites applications for student scholarships or faculty fellowships for individuals that may require some travel assistance to attend the conference.
Call for Applications
In keeping with the theme of TeraGrid ’07, “Broadening Participation in TeraGrid,” the TeraGrid ’07 Broadening Participation Conference Scholarships and Fellowships are intended to help provide support for under-served faculty, administrators, IT professionals, and graduate or undergraduate students to attend the TeraGrid ’07 conference June 4-8, 2007 at the University of Wisconsin at Madison. The program is intended to further the participants’ understanding and participation in the TeraGrid mission, activities and community and the science research and education that it enables. TeraGrid, ’07 is an excellent venue to discover new areas of potential research and curricular interest, and to foster collaborative relationships to act on those interests.
The scholarships will provide limited support to cover a portion of the costs of attending TeraGrid ’07. The support may include up to $400 of re-imbursements to help cover transportation and housing. Registration will be complimentary for recipients of this award.
Application Process
To apply for the Broadening Participation Scholarships and Fellowships, send email to tg07-info@teragrid.org by Monday, April 23, 2007, and include the following information:
- Name
- Institution name and address
- Home address
- e-mail address
- Office and home phone numbers
- Title (students simply indicate Undergraduate or Graduate Student as title)
- Major area of research or education interest
- If a student, name and title of faculty advisor/sponsor
- Whether or not you will be making a presentation at TeraGrid ’07 and the nature of your presentation (paper, tutorial, poster, demonstration, BOF, etc.)
- Include a brief explanation (2 pages or less) of how your attendance at TeraGrid ’07 will benefit your research, teaching, learning, practice, and/or future career. Include anticipated activities you will pursue following the conference to remain involved in using TeraGrid and/or related activities (e.g., related planned research or education activities or collaborations, involvement in TeraGrid education or training activities, involvement in Minority-Serving Institutions Cyberinfrastructure Empowerment Coalition (MSI-CIEC), engaging others in your institution and your community of practice, furtherance of educational goals, etc.). Indicate why you are requesting a scholarship.
Notification
Individuals selected for a scholarship will be notified of their acceptance on or before Friday, May 4, 2007. Selected individuals will need to make their own travel arrangements and are asked to make airline reservations one month in advance to minimize travel costs. Hotel accommodations can be found online at http://www.union.wisc.edu/teragrid07/accommodations.html. It is recommended that scholarship or fellowship recipients make housing reservations at the University House Towers, which has a rate of $17/night for single occupancy, or make double occupancy reservations at one of the hotels listed on the conference web site.
