Memorial Union Terrace
When most people think Memorial Union, they think of the Terrace—and those brightly colored starburst chairs.
Set on the shores of Lake Mendota, this campus icon is home to the UW Credit Union Summer Stage with live music five nights a week. Lakeside Cinema on Monday nights throughout the summer. The Brat Stand with brats and burgers fresh off the grill. And the Daily Scoop’s outdoor stand for Babcock Ice Cream. The Terrace also allows patrons easy access to Outdoor Rentals and Hoofers.
During the winter, the Terrace chairs may be gone for the season but the spirit remains. Rail Jam, hosted by the Hoofer Ski and Snowboard club, hauls in 20 tons of snow for a ski and snowboard competition. Hoofers also takes advantage of the Terrace and Lake Mendota for their Winter Carnival. The lake is transformed into an ice rink, the Seven Hills Skydivers do a demo jump, broomball is played and Lady Liberty makes an appearance.
No matter the time of year, the Memorial Union Terrace is a campus favorite.
