About the Memorial Union Terrace
When most people think Memorial Union, they think of the Terrace—and those
brightly colored starburst chairs. Set on the shores of Lake Mendota, this campus icon is Madison’s most popular back porch where crowds gather to enjoy food, music, sunsets, sailing, laughter and a quintessential Madison summer.
We’re improving on perfection.
It’s true, the Memorial Union is under construction this summer, but we’ll be open as usual! There are some things—some traditional, terrific Union Terrace things—that need no improvement at all. Like a delicious cone of Babcock ice cream. Casting off with the Hoofers for a sail around the lake. Or seeing your circle of friends, circled ‘round a brightly colored table and pitcher of Der Rathskeller’s coldest beverage.
The construction might make us just a little harder to get to, but we promise, we’re worth it. We’ll be updating this page as the construction project evolves throughout the summer. Bookmark us and check in often to find the latest information on parking, events, and project milestones. If you have any questions along the way, please contact us.
For the latest info on how to get to the Terrace by foot, bike, bus or car, visit our parking page where you’ll also find links to cool apps for real time parking space availability. Plan your visit now.
Music & Entertainment
The Terrace After Dark music line-up continues with live music five nights a week on the UW Credit Union music stage and movies on Mondays on our giant outdoor screen. Find out what’s happening this week.
The Brat Stand is undergoing a facelift and will reopen with traditional grilled favorites at the end of May. We’ll be unveiling new food stands in mid-June featuring tasty menu items like pulled-pork sliders and nachos. You can also order a New York style pizza from the new Urban Slice in Lakefront on Langdon. Check out the full list of Memorial Union dining options here.
